Privacy Policy for Buzzword

Buzzword ("the app") is developed by Iowa Tech Group. This policy explains what data the app accesses and what happens to it.

Summary

Buzzword does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us or to any third party. All speech recognition happens entirely on your device.

Microphone access

The app requests the RECORD_AUDIO permission and runs a foreground service so it can listen continuously for the trigger words and phrases you configure. Audio is processed in real time by an on-device speech recognition engine (Vosk):

• Audio is never recorded to a file, uploaded, or sent off your device.
• Audio is never transmitted over the network — the app makes no network requests at all.
• No audio, transcripts, or recognition results are sent to us, to the app developer, or to any third party or analytics service.
• Recognition results (whether a trigger word was heard, and when) are stored only in a local database on your device, so you can review session history and hit counts. This data never leaves your device.

Notifications

The app requests the POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission (Android 13+) to show the required ongoing foreground-service notification while listening is active. No notification content is sent anywhere outside your device.

Data sharing

The app includes an optional "Share summary" feature that lets you manually share a session summary (as text) using Android's standard share sheet, to an app of your choosing. This only happens when you explicitly tap Share, and the app has no control over, and does not collect any information from, the destination you choose.

Third parties

The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. It does not sell or share data with third parties, because it does not collect any data to share.

Data retention and deletion

All app data (trigger lists, session history) is stored locally in the app's private storage. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, permanently deletes this data.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect data at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new version will be published at this same URL.
